Basic and essential software for all internet marketers/#Anti-virus

by Chris Matthewman on December 16, 2009

Most of the software that we recommend is available as free downloads…Free software for internet new marketers

Listed below are the basic software components that you will probably need on your computer that we either use every day or are otherwise indispensable to running an Internet marketing business.

They include:

  1. Anti-Virus Software
  2. Chat Software
  3. Email Software
  4. File Transfer Software
  5. Text Editor
  6. Web Browser

Here’ a brief rundown of them in alphabetical order.

  1. Anti-Virus Software

Probably the No 1 reason why people lose ALL their data is the lack of good Anti- Virus software. Not the first thing we think about when booting up our pc I know, however without it you run the risk of getting one of those nasty viruses! As an Internet marketer you should always protect your most important asset – the contents of your pc.

I use MacAfee for all Anti-Virus protection needs.

  2. Chat Software

Chatting with your affiliate manager, clients or partners is more personal and gets results faster than exchanging information by email. I use Google’s GTalk which is free and offers PC-to-PC voice calls, instant messaging, file transfers and Gmail notifications.

  3. Email Software

You can use Microsoft Outlook; however setting up filters is a little time consuming. You might also want to check out Mozilla’s Thunderbird, which promises intelligent spam filters, quick message search, and customizable views, has received excellent reviews and is available as a free download.

  4. File Transfer Software

Rather than use my HTML editor or cPanel to manage files and transfer them from my computer to the server, I find it much faster and easier to use FTP (file transfer protocol) software. I use Filezilla which is so easy to use and offers excellent security features as well as transfer and configuration settings. Coffee Cup’s Direct FTP client is similar to WS-FTP and is also free to try.

  5. Text Editor

One tip you should follow is writing all your posts and articles offline so as to avoid data loss if your Internet Connection goes down – which can happen!. One tool you can use for this is Ultra-Edit, which is a text editor PLUS.

  6. Web Browser

Firefox is catching Internet Explorer fast in terms of users and has gained considerable popularity over the years, rising from 4 percent in January 2004 to nearly 50% as of December 2009; and is now the browser choice of many Internet Marketers and SEO experts. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer has around a 40% share of users and will more than likely be pre-installed on your pc so you can use both if you wish. I tend to use both for checking my websites browser viewing capability as it can differ from one browser to the next. If you can view your website in both Firefox and Explorer will keep most people happy!

Using some or all of the above software will certainly help you in your day-to-day Internet marketing tasks.
